update ....

I've ordered one of these, delivery is supposed to be in early August. Never had a Schecter before, or even played one. The joys of being left handed, ordering blind over the internet. From what I've seen on youtube they're fairly decent.

Hi Paul,

I feel really confident that you'll get a very nice one.

Hopefully as gorgeous as Molly Robbins (best cakemaker i.m.o. - With plenty of cream inside...)..

https://images.cm.archant.co.uk/resourc ... g-cake.jpg

Real mad about this gal!!!

Really great taste and very nice choice from you.
I really look forward to hearing from you and receiving your feedback once it gets delivered to you.
I feel like being almost on the verge of envying you! Congrats!

Feels like I'd be about to sell my whole kingdom for a lefty Sun Valley in Midnight Blue to my part...

Pete Townshend is one of my best influences, if not the very one, along with Bert Weedon...

Keep well

All the best!

i tried the only lefty available 6 months ago at LE GAUCHER.

very nice but poor setup so the treble pickup was not very attractive , not very twangy. the P90 was hot.

the neck profile was very schecter (like the Nick Johnston signature i think)
Se ferais bien greffer une ou deux mains en plus..

By the way, just in case anyone is wondering I did enquire from Thomann about the Schecter PT and their delivery date, as of my enquiry last March was May ..... 2023

They were cheaper though, about 770 euro' ish

Latest info from Gear4music is mid October 2022 8) delivery. Might as well hang on now, see how it develops.

The delays are getting bigger and bigger somehow.. some will say it remained consistent throughout the pandemic, but man.. we're changing ideas fast already, now who knows what will be interesting in '23

I received another email last week saying that the guitar is delayed until October.

Then of course today ... I received another email saying it is now in stock and payment is required before shipping :?

Probably some system error, i.e screw up.

The saga continues

Hi Paul,

I've searched right now and it seems that gearformusic have it in stock.

I believe that the guitar theme from The Deer Hunter was played by John Williams. Really nice theme.

I really like this movie.

I also like this song called 'The Saigon Bride' by Joan Baez.

Please let us know if you order it from gearformusic.

Keep well.

All the best!

Hi Paul,

This most likely sounds like pretty great news...

I guess you should also definitely be getting one of these as these 2017 LH Squiers are scarce now.

These LH Hello Kittys definitely rock.

Well believe it or not the saga gets even better ....

The guitar arrived today but the intonation is way off on the first five frets, I have never played a guitar that sounded so far off at the first fret. Open chords sound terrible, or to put it bluntly .. shite :?

The nut looks to be the problem, slots too high, plus jumbo frets may be making it worse. It looks cool though 8)

It was actually set up, intonation is fine, pickups are balanced for output, if anything the bridge is louder than the neck ( I have seen online that the neck P90 is way louder than the bridge, but this one has the P90 lowered and lowered again from the low E string ).

I am guessing that because it is a left handed guitar it may have been set up but was not played, a simple strum on an open D chord would have alerted whoever set it up.

It's not light, maybe 8lbs or so, that's fine by me. The neck feels narrow and it's definitely not a fat neck.

Sounds good, lots of bite from the bridge, ear piercing treble if required :) , P90 is fuller and fatter, both pickups together sounds great.

I have emailed both Schecter tech support and gear4music, I would prefer not to return it but from reading the warranty terms on the Schecter site if I or a guitar tech replace the nut it will void the warrany, plus I really don't want to, or should I have to, pay someone to fix a brand new guitar

I’m sorry about your misfortune, but it hardly surprises me.
Right now guitar factories are under pressure to catch up on production ratard following COVID.
Quality remains uncertain in almost all manufacturers.
I received in store a G&L (and this is not the first one) with traces of heating on the wood following outis at the end of life, today I spent an hour on a new guitar (mass in the guitar at random wire positions, setting the Truss rod and action etc...), this is not normal for a new guitar, even if these are not big worries.
But the sad thing is that your salesperson should have tested and checked the guitar before sending it.
Personally, I return a guitar if the aesthetic flaws are too important or if a big problem of playability or electronics.
But for that it would defraud that the shops open the boxes........

Thanks for the response, it seems like prices have gone up and quality has gone down.

A pity really, buying a new guitar is a bit of a crap shoot now, although I got a brand new Godin Kingpin from Thomann last March and it's flawless, didn't have to do a thing to it, it plays in tune perfectly, stays in tune, can't find a problem with it at all and I've played it an awful lot in the last five months.

The price has shot way up though, it's maybe 30% higher for the same guitar now on Thomann

Godin is Godin, it’s quality so no worries.
I speak of a degradation for most guitars of the Asian bloc (except the Japanese)
Concerning the prices, indeed, the massive increase of the last months and in my opinion not justified but it is being subjected to full force (Still Ukraine?). Personally, I no longer order certain brands whose value for money is no longer present for the buyer.
When I see the price difference of a Larry Carlton between a right-handed and a left-handed, I wait for the firm-footed supplier to explain it to me and I think he will go to hell with his guitars.(I would only take one or two instead of one model of each)

I'm sorry this has been such a shady experience

As a reference point, 2 years back I purchased a Schecter Nick Johnston signature from Thomann.

The guitar was flawless really, barely any changes done aside from a slight truss rod adjustment

But your point remains, quality has gone down in some cases.. hopefully that gets fixed with the return numbers going up ..

Hi Paul,

Thanks a lot for your feedback!

Well, I guess you shall try and have this guitar being fixed by an experienced luthier instead.

I am more into teles with HB in the neck.

That may be dating back from the day when I listened to Seaton Daunt.

Sounds really great when being plugged into a Vox-voiced amp...

But I also like the sound that Jelle from the Ragtime Wranglers gets outs of his tele with P90 in the neck.

Keep well

All the best

It's going back, as recommended by Schecter support.

Nothing from gear4music on the return though, started that process two days ago :?

Hi Paul,

I hope that all is well for you.
I wonder about who is gonna fix it, be it gearformusic or even the Schechter factory by themselves...
So will you be getting a couple of these now?...
If I had the chance of getting a couple of these then I would be turning one into a baritone or XII.

Over the last years I had the opportunity of attending two gigs by Macca in Paris.
First time at Stade de France, seat being offered by one of my sis for my B-day, for about 136 €.
Felt like I was watching the Fraggles rock from all over a wee tiny screen situated from very far away...

Another time at Bercy for half the price in the pit, and I paid 14 € for one beer and sandwich.
I could have made my way and tricked among the queues to get among the first ranks.
Still I was in the very 1/3rd part away from the scene and my ears were already about to bleed.
And Rusty sounded like a chipmunk because there was way too much treble in the settings of his voice.

At one time Macca asked: 'So, what are we gonna do now?'
How I wish that I had screamed 'Goodbye (goodbye my love)' and said 'Well, I can play it."
He would have invited me on stage then and I would have played it on his D-28.

Over the last couple of days I got a very lot of interest into Mary Hopkin.
One of the purest voices along with Joan Baez and Joni Mitchell imo.

I would have ended with a few bars from 'Lend me your comb' and 'Train kept a Rollin'"

At least all in all I feel great that I could attend some of his shows.
In private I would have asked him about how he got to be playing for Screaming Jay Hawkins and so on.
A widower and divorcee who lost his mum at the age of 14 and moved out often deserves respect imo.

Keep well.

All the best

Hi Paul,

Not long ago I discovered that the soundtrack of this movie was composed by Giorgio Moroder and Klaus Doldinger (who composed the soundtrack of 'Das Boot') and that 'The chase' from Midnight Express' which was composed by Moroder was arranged by Harold Faltenmeyer (who also composed the Top Gun anthem along with Steve Stevens and 'Axel F' from 'Beverly Hills Cop.').

Be patient, there is a god somewhere when a band have a lefty guitarist in it. Tutti Frutti...

Randy Watson and Sexual Chocolate be forever in our memories...

All the best

So today is the 17th, and the guitar is due in stock with Thomann tomorrow.

No communication that it is delayed, so here's crossing my fingers that it does.

Don't you want to cancel your order and wait until one pops out on second hand?

Oh yes I've been tempted, but the current Thomann price is 859, gear4music is over 1000. So if I do get one from Thomann the next batch could be 1000+. Plus I already got a case for it back in July :? , only a basic cheap case but I now have a case and no guitar for it

Mind you if it doesn't appear shortly I probably will cancel, the longest I've waited for a guitar previously was for an anniversary Fender Strat and that was six months. I've been trying to get this Schecter since March 2022, and I'm not sure it will be worth the wait.

So I cancelled the Schecter from Thomann, no way I'm waiting another 6 months.

Last time I looked gear4music had one due in January .. but now it says late February so that's also a big fat no.

I do have a nice Thomann case that I got in advance last July ( sily me ) ...

.. so now I have to find a guitar for it :D .

And a parting shot ... a photo of the PT Special I had to send back to gear4music

Hi Paul,

I guess that for that price now you should better get one like this:

https://touch.adverts.ie/electric-guita ... k/27389016

Then you may ask from a pickup maker such as Pete Biltoft from Vintage Vibe Guitars for instance for a custom 4-wire P90 with push-pull capabilities and find a luthier who could rout the body and know how to wire thanks to push-pull pots in order to also allow you to get a killer out of phase in series sound.

Keep well

All the best

Wolfgang

So I noticed that gear4music were due a shipment of a lefty PT Special in purple burst in the coming weeks .. so I placed an order thinking that if it didn't come in it would be on the way sometime in 2023.

And the price was right, 905 euro, only about 30 euro more than when I first ordered one in March 22, it had been up to 1100+ euro for one at one point

That was a couple of weeks ago.

Then yesterday morning first thing I got an email saying that it was delayed until July 23, another 5 months  ( surprise, not ). I was ok with that as I just got the 8 string Omen Elite and at least the PT Special was on the way at some point.

Then, of course, late last night I got another email saying the guitar had been dispatched and was on the way ... delivery date July 23 ! Of course they charged me for the guitar already but the delivery was months away

So I checked the tracking info and something is on the way and is now in Ireland, delivery in the next couple of days.

So much for technology, it seems they don't know WTF is going on .. because I certainly don't 8)

Update to follow

So it arrived yesterday ... and it's looking good.

Nearly had a heart attack when I saw the courier taking it from the van .. gear4music shipped it in it's original cardboard box  , NO double boxing at all, just the factory box ... from the UK.

Thankfully it wasn't damaged.

It was actually in tune out of the box .. so at least it was checked this time, inspected in some form before shipping.

First thing I did was play an open D chord ... intonation is spot on on this one.

The frets are now normal medium jumbos, the first one had very skinny and VERY tall frets, which probably didn't help intonation on the first one which was WAY off.

It just needs a couple of tweaks, neck pickup is a lot louder than the bridge and the truss rod needs a small adjustment but I'll wait a few days, let it settle in first.

It only took the best part of a year to get one :D
